Let’s talk
As of today, three giants grapple for dominance over the streaming scene: Facebook Gaming, YouTube Gaming and Twitch. Each of these aims to emerge as the top streaming platform, each with its own advantages. YouTube has algorithms improving streamer discoverability. Twitch has the privilege of being the first in the streaming game thus having a near monopoly on the scene. Facebook has detailed data of each user and the potential to match viewers with streamers according to their interests.
Recently published Streamlabs and Stream Hatchet’s report summarising Q3 2021 reveals that for the first time in history, Facebook Gaming surpassed YouTube Gaming in views count. It was also the only platform to record an increase of watched hours during Q3.
How well will Facebook’s streaming platform do in the long run though? YouTube’s recent acquisitions of streamer stars, such as TimTheTatman and DrLupo mean that Google’s platform is not yet laying down its guns. Twitch is also far from over with its 70% dominance in watched hours.
The race to become the top streaming platform is accelerating. And we can’t be more excited to see how it will unfold!
