Being a Twitch streamer isn’t a piece of cake. It sounds great! Playing games all day, chatting with people, and making money? It’s a dream. Besides, it seems that the best time to get into streaming is right now, with popularity of live streams skyrocketing and more platforms adding streaming options. However, it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. One of the main challenges is growing your audience. Especially on Twitch. The competition is fierce so getting your audience to grow organically is challenging. Instead, you should be aware of how to build your community consciously. We’re here to show you how to get viewers on Twitch.

  1. Choose your games
  2. Promote your stream
  3. Get involved in the community
  4. Stick to your schedule

Choose You Games

When you go on Twitch, the first thing you see is people playing Call of Duty, League of Legends, Fortnite, etc. You know what we are talking about. On the market, there are many oversaturated games you should avoid in the beginning. You won’t be able to grow your audience based solely on the most popular games. Almost no one will go on some noob’s GTA stream, while some popular streamer is currently playing the same thing. If you want to grow your channel, it’s a good idea to avoid games like this. You will have so much time to stream it in the future, you will get bored.

Try to find a game you like and has potential, but not too many people stream it. Preferably avoid old games and focus on something new, but not so well known. Indie games are a good idea, as well as some more known, but rarely streamed games. For example:

  • Dead by Daylight
  • Albion Online
  • Raft
  • Phasmophobia
  • Runescape

You can also use sites like SullyGnome or Twitch Tracker to research what games are trending at this moment. Look for games where you can typically rank in the top three rows with your average viewer count.

Promote Your Stream

When learning how to get more viewers on Twitch, you need to know one thing. It is not the most friendly place for new users. The wall is either filled with popular streamers who pay for promotion, or flooded with small streamers with 1 or 2 viewers, and all of them look exactly the same. That’s when social media became the greatest tool ever created.

The best way to promote yourself without overdoing it is to choose 2-3 channels max, and create your own strategy. Choose your brand persona and write some guidelines. Think about it, do you want to be taken as this funny person who is always oversharing and answers with a witty comment? Or maybe you prefer to be serious and attract people with educational content? No matter what you choose, remember to keep a coherent image of yourself.

After your basic strategy is done, it’s time to think about content and collabs. It all depends on the platform you choose.

Social media platforms you can use

Get Involved in the Community

If you want to show yourself off, you can always ask other streamers to make collabs with you. Raids are very popular among friendly creators, and the right raid can get you big exposure. Make friends in the streaming community is easy. Go to offline events, be active on their chats, comment their posts on social media, and be visible! Shout outs on the air are also a good idea, but remember that you always need some kind of value in your interactions – otherwise you will come across as a regular spammer.

Stick To Your Schedule

Last but not least – be active and regular. Creating a schedule will help your viewers remember about your streams, and it will give your channel a sense of needed predictability. A schedule doesn’t mean that you can’t give yourself any break or skip out for a few days, but if you’re still building your following up from zero, you’ll want to be consistent.

Give updates on Social Media

We hope these few tips will help learn more about how to get more viewers on Twitch. It is a great platform, but it also requires a lot of knowledge and work. Don’t be scared if things won’t be going your way for some time. Be happy about even the smallest win, as it may be the break your channel will need to finally blow up. Turn on your mic and get down to business!
